Project Engineer, New Structure Design

Carl Walker  is seeking a talented and motivated candidate to serve as a Project Engineer in our Indianapolis office. The position involves engineering and design of new parking structure projects. A structural engineering, or comparable, background is required; however, previous experience with parking design is not necessary. After becoming familiar with parking structure design and CWI processes, the position will evolve to include project management, incorporating communication and coordination with internal and external clients, and management of project resources.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to project design and the production, construction cost estimates, specifications, and drawings;
  • Coordinate project planning and quality reviews;
  • Achieve client satisfaction and loyalty;
  • Assist:
    • with project structural engineering analysis, design, and document production;
    • with potential and current clients to communicate progress and solve issues;
    • the Carl Walker team during the bidding phase, including pre-bid meetings, addenda, bid evaluations, review of alternates and substitutions;
    • the Carl Walker team during the construction administration phase, including pre-construction meetings, construction review, project meetings, test report review, project close-out, etc.

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, or a BA in Architecture, or an MSCE from an ABET accredited engineering program with focus on structural engineering;
  • Professional Engineering or Architecture License preferred;
  • 4+ years of related work experience in engineering and design of buildings, bridges, or comparable concrete or steel structures;
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Problem-solving, and analytical skills;
  • Team leadership skills and experience;
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Mathcad, SAP2000;
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Design Engineer II

Carl Walker is seeking a talented, intermediate structural engineer for our Indianapolis office. The Indianapolis office serves as the primary structural engineering department for the company. The position provides the opportunity to utilize knowledge of structural analysis, building codes, mechanics of materials, post-tensioned/reinforced concrete design, and structural steel design.

In this position you will be a member of a structural design team working closely with a structural project manager and other design engineers. You will work on a variety of new parking structure designs as well as mixed use facilities and pedestrian bridges.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use good organization and communication skills in all aspects of job performance;
  • Conduct Building Code review;
  • Perform structural analysis, including all loading conditions such as gravity, wind, seismic, and volume change loads;
  • Layout of framing and structural detailing that coordinates with architectural, civil, and MEP documents;
  • Superstructure design including slabs, beams, girders, columns and walls;
  • Foundation design for both shallow and deep foundation systems as well as retaining structures;
  • Organization and documentation of all design calculations;
  • Assist in preparation of construction documents;
  • Conduct field observations and shop drawing reviews during construction.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office;
  • Bachelors in Structural Engineering or related field;
  • 2-4 years of experience.
