University of Kentucky #2

Lexington, Kentucky

This unique project included a 350-car horizontal expansion and a major renovation of the existing 861-car structure. New brick, limestone and precast concrete architectural panels complement the architecture of the adjacent William T. Young Library, and blend in with the traditional appearance of the surrounding campus. Functional improvements incorporated into the final design allowed for the development of a beautifully-landscaped pedestrian plaza immediately west of the parking structure. The main entry/exit was relocated to improve traffic flow and provide better pedestrian access, and new lighting was added to brighten the existing parking structure consistent with the new addition.

Restoration of the existing structure and relocation of utilities were completed while maintaining parking and service to the University's central communications center below the existing parking structure.

The International Parking Institute awarded this project Honorable Mention in the Awards for Excellence competition.
