Grand Rapids, Michigan

The Houseman Athletic Field retaining wall was constructed in 1934 and is approximately 360 feet long. Cracks in the wall were located throughout, primarily under the chain link fence post and near construction joints. This area also showed signs of concrete delaminations and spalling. The 2 foot high walls at the south end of the field were also in poor condition due to freeze/thaw action.
Restoration Description
Carl Walker conducted a conditions analysis to determine the cause of current wall problems and provided repair options. Repairs were implemented to address the citied problems, including elimination of the embedded fence post connections to the wall and sidewalk removal and replacement.
